University of Strathclyde – Fire Reinstatement Work

The James Weir is the 3rd largest building on the University of Strathclyde’s John Anderson Campus, located in Glasgow’s city centre. It is home to 3 faculties, The Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, The Department of Design, Manufacture & Engineering Management and The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, all of which are part of the Faculty of Engineering.
The building is capable of holding over 650 + students at any one time, so when fire devastated 6 floors of this building on the 7th February 2012 the challenges were great, temp facilities, in the form of local cinemas and other buildings around the campus and plans were quickly put in place to ensure minimal disruption to students studies and to restore the building back to its former glory.
HF are proud to be have been involved in the restoration works and our tasks included the replacement of LV Switchgear, lighting, power and fire alarms and all works were completed in line with the clients strict timescales.
